MORNIING
Morniing is the brainchild and recording project of Edward Knight.
A swirling mass of ecstatic moments and tongue in cheek idiosyncrasies, Morniing has become a motley collage of far-reaching tastes. Drawing staunchly from the independent and D.I.Y. ethos, part of the mission statement was always to revel in the freedom of creation.
Sonically, the music takes inspiration from lo-fi, indie rock, pop, krautrock, electronic, experimental, punk and psychedelic music. The result is something that treads a line between beauty and fierceness, always teasing out the paradox.
As Morniing came to be a celebratory space in the studio, so were the members of the live act selected. Surrounded by a few of their nearest and dearest, The Formidable Morniing Band offer a joyous and energetic live experience, with a palpable harmony on stage.
HEAVY AMBER
Heavy Amber is an up-and-coming psych rock trio shooting out of Naarm. Despite drawing deep inspiration from the golden age of sixties and seventies rock and roll, Heavy Amber present themselves as a wholly modern experiment, fusing feelings of love and loss to create an out-of-the-box, genre-defying, fluid performance.
Members include Kasinda Faase (guitars/vox) Sienna Laycock (bass/vox) and Samuel Drew Rumoro (drums).
NEON GOBLIN
Those with a keen ear may have overheard in back alleys and beer gardens alike, reverent whispers of the Neon Goblin; echoes of drafted melodies recorded on telephones, quietly displayed in small circles for a chosen few. Finally they surface, a psychedelic power-trio fronted by Samuel Drew-Rumoro (Pseudo Mind Hive, Hannah Kate) featuring the deft, crushing percussives of John Zacharias (Zelkova, PMH), and Eddie Knight (Morniing) filling the bass register with flowery, yet fiery harmony.
With fuzz-laden guitar riffs, odd time signatures, and bizarre stage antics, the group creates an eccentric live set, casting an air of exhileration over their audience that is an experience in itself. The soaring vocal harmonies and counter-melodies between the guitar and bass result in a full sound that suggests they are a much bigger band than a three-piece. The group is heavily influenced by the work of Cream and other such legendary trios that evoked large scale soundscapes, despite their stripped back instrumentation.
Belt up your flares, warm up your amp, drop the needle, and turn on your lava lamp.
Zelkova
Meet Zelkova, a dynamic five-piece exploding out of Melbourne’s north. The band take a raw, old school approach using nothing but their instruments and human touch to create their wholly unique sound. Influenced by the purity of late sixties jazz rock, along with European and African influences, Zelkova take you on a journey through psychedelic landscapes in a way that is completely bare and fervent..
The sheer volume and power of Zelkova’s live sound is satisfyingly jarring, especially when accompanied by moments of gentle whispers; their highly dynamic show is brimming with experimental improvisation that keeps you guessing at every chop and change. With powerful guitar, bass and organ presences that are complimented by the high-tuned drums, ethereal flute and saxophone.
